Jia Morado-De Guzman: Setting the Standard of Philippine Volleyball

Jia Morado-De Guzman stands as a titan in Philippine volleyball, celebrated for her remarkable playmaking skills, tactical intelligence, and inspiring leadership. Her career boasts a wealth of achievements, from her dominance in the UAAP to her exceptional performances in professional leagues both in the Philippines and abroad.

Early Life and Collegiate Career

Born on May 10, 1995, in Manila, Philippines, Julia Melissa “Jia” Morado-De Guzman displayed an early affinity for volleyball. She honed her skills at Colegio San Agustin – Makati before joining the Ateneo de Manila University.

There, she spearheaded the Ateneo Lady Eagles’ offense, her strategic setting fueling their back-to-back UAAP championships in Seasons 76 and 77.

Morado-De Guzman’s brilliance earned her numerous individual awards, including Best Setter and Season 77 Finals MVP.

Creamline Cool Smashers and PVL Success

Upon transitioning to the professional ranks, Morado-De Guzman became a cornerstone of the Creamline Cool Smashers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL). Her exceptional setting, court vision, and leadership fueled the team’s championship triumphs, solidifying their place as a PVL powerhouse.

International Stint in Japan

In a historic move, Jia Morado inked a deal on August 31, 2023, to join the Denso Airybees of Japan’s V.League Division 1. This marks her debut as a bench import, a first in her illustrious volleyball career.

She’ll be following in the footsteps of her former Ateneo teammate, Alyssa Valdez, as only the second Filipina volleyball player to become a bench import in the league.
